A couple of new recipes I am wanting to try....
Grandma's Hairspray
1 T Sugar
1/3 to 1 C hot water
1/2 t oil of choice (I like lemon)
Mix well and pour into spray bottle. Use sparingly at first. Less water for stronger spray. Your hair will really shine. (06/18/2004)
I am trying this one again, but putting the orange in my bullet blender first before boiling. I hope this works this time!
1 lemon or orange (I am using an orange)
2 cups water
Rubbing alcohol optional
Use a food processor or blender to release all the oils and juice from the flesh of the Lemon or Orange. Use orange if you have dry hair. Place this is a sauce pan (I used stainless steel) and bring to a gentle rolling boil and BOIL IT UNTIL IT REDUCES TO ONE CUP. Cool and strain and place in a spray bottle. Store in the refrigerator and it will last for 2 weeks. OR add one ounce of alcohol as a preservative and then it can be stored for up to 2 weeks unrefrigerated.
I will keep you posted. :-)
The purpose of my Blog is to teach others how to live Greener. Whether it is the type of bodycare products you are using or the foods you are buying. I want to open your eyes to the same things my eyes have been opened to. It is SO IMPORTANT that we get this info out to others! Find me on Facebook at It's time to green!

Hair Spray
Well....here it goes....I am making my own hairspray as I type. :-)
Taken from http://planetgreen.discovery.com/fashion-beauty/prom-hair.html
1 orange or lemon (I picked orange because lemon can sometime dry out your hair)
2 cups of boiling water
Strainer
Knife
Coffee filter
1 bottle (I bought a small spray glass bottle from Whole Foods for $2)
Peel and cut the orange or lemon into wedges. Place into 2 cups of boiling water. Start your timer and let the orange boil in the water for 8 minutes. You want to stop when you have 1 cup of water left in the pan. Allow liquid to cool in pan and then strain in a colander first and then again in a colander lined with a coffee filter, allowing it to drip into a bowl.
Carefully pour into your spray bottle of choice.
You have to store this hair spray in the refrigerator, which is kind of funny. It will last 1 week in the refrigerator. To make it last 2 weeks add 1 tbsp of rubbing alcohol.
My house smells wonderful. Yum!
Check back later to see how it works on my frizzy hair. :-)
Ok, so this recipe seems to be a "light hold" hair spray. I have to do more research for my curls. I have always had to buy the "extra hold" hairsprays. I will post when I find more info. :-)
**Sad to say...I gave up and now I buy my hairspray from Whole Foods. :-)
